Do I need a router or a splitter (Netflix)?
So, what I’m trying to do is connect both my computer and a WD HD Media Player to my cable internet connection, so I can watch Netflix movies instantly on my tv. Unfortunately, my router only has 1 ethernet port and I need to have BOTH my Media Player and my Computer online simultaneously for activation. What would be the best way to resolve this issue?
Should I:
A) Buy another router (which I REALLY don’t want to do)
B) Find an Ethernet Splitter (sells for about $1 on ebay) and simply split the ethernet wire, as it exits the router. How will this effect my connection?
Also, I just realized that I can access Netflix’s Activation page via my cell phone. This would work too, wouldn’t it? I honestly don’t intend on using the computer and the media player at the same time, so I don’t see why this would be an issue. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
A splitter probably would work but I wouldn’t slit an ethernet line. It would be better to buy a switch. $10 on newegg. If you buy a multiport switch it can handle the traffic of multiple devices. Since more and more devices that connect to the tv are internet capable, ie. dvd player, xbox, ps3, mediaplayes, this would allow for more growing room.
