whay is my dvd blue screen?

I have a UMC 19 "HD LCD TV / DVD combi with a docking station for iPod. i have had 12 months. i passed it down my niece and the DVD part works just a blue screen. you can hear the dvd spinning, but no photo. some idea of what might be wrong? please help! thanks x
