Hd Tv Switchover
What Hd Content Is There For Your New Hd Television?
A lot of people will have heard about the new High Definition Televisions that are now available with many of the older non-HD televisions now obsolete and no longer on sale. These TVs are great for getting an incredibly crisp picture that shows all the detail right down to individual blades of grass and every hair on a character’s head but this can all be for nought if you don’t have a High Definition source for your TV.
FreeSat/Virgin+/Sky HD
Terrestrial television and subscriber television packages are now able to provide a range of programming in High Definition, from sports events to the latest movies there are many channels of HD content out now and with the recent digital switchover there are more planned to take advantage of the HD TVs we’re all buying at the moment. UK HD broadcasts are currently around 720p so you may not need 1080p TV sets just yet if you are only going to watch TV and not any of the higher resolutions found in consoles and Bluray movies.
Video Game Consoles (Xbox 360/PS3)
Video games are one of the major proponents of High Definition as computer games have always wanted higher resolution pictures to help immersion and believe that the games you are playing could be real. Fortunately the latest generation of video game consoles now are capable of providing HD pictures up to 1080p in some cases (PS3 only), the PS3 can also function as atop of the line media entre with its Bluray player capability too. Games have never looked or sounded so real thanks to HD televisions!
Upscaling DVD players
A cheaper option is to get DVD players that can up convert the standard resolution to a HD picture instead. Not as detailed as BluRays but the picture can be sharpened up and tweaked by these DVD players to give an impressive result despite coming from the DVD. The PS3 console can also up convert DVDs but is obviously much more expensive.
Bluray Players
BluRay players are like the new DVD players, able to play both mediums they can give you the BluRay playing ability of the PS3 but with a lower price tag. Most films now come out on BluRay at the same time as they do on DVD with the added bonus of extra bonus material, online features and better sound and picture quality.
There are lots of HD televisions to choose from from LCD to Plasma TVs, also check out the many DVD players available that are able to up convert the picture to look great on your big screen
