Samsung Hd Tv Information
How does a standard-definition cable signal look on a HDTV?
Hey everyone. I haven’t made the jump to HD quite yet, but I’m thinking of doing so relatively soon. However, once I do buy a new HDTV, I’ll still have my standard-def. (coaxial) cable for a few months before I can opt-out of the service and go HD.
I’m wondering how the coaxial signal will look on the HDTV. Will the 4:3 signal be stretched to fit the 16:9 aspect ratio or will the TV compensate for that? There’s bound to be fuzziness on the signal but I’m prepared for that. I’m just concerned with how the TV will display the signal. If it helps, I plan on getting a Samsung 22″ LN22A330 for my bedroom. Any other information or insight you deem important will surely help an HD-newbie. Thanks for the help!
It looks like crap.
We get a lot of postings here about “I just bought a new HDTV and the image looks worse than my old TV – what can I do…”
The video was the height of technology in 1949 and was designed to fit a nine-inch screen. Blown up on a high resolution display and .. well think “Dot Matrix” printing compared to laser jet.
But all is not lost.
Many cable services include the major ABC, CBS, NBC high def channels for free although some force you to get a cable box.
The other idea is:
- Type your address into www.antennaweb.org and it will show you where the TV towers are around your home and recommend an indoor/outdoor antenna.
- If you are lucky – get the Phillips Silver Sensor – classic indoor antenna for about $25 and position it to see the TV towers and have the TV scan for channels. You can often get several HD channels for free.
