Can I view HD channels on an SDTV?
I am going to get a DVR which includes HDTV, which means that I will have access to HD channels for free without paying for their regular versions (such as HBO and the Movie Network). I know I won’t be able to view them in HD quality, but am wondering if I will be able to view them at all on my regular TV. I have looked in various message boards and see people saying both yes and no, so if anyone has personal experience could you please answer? Don’t answer if you don’t know.

If these HD DVR which you have told us nothing about has compatible (the same) AV connections as your SDTV, then yes, you will be able to connect the two devices and the HD DVR will down convert the signal for your TV.
Does your TV and the DVR have either S-video and or component video connections?
The answer needs to be yes, or else you will not even be able to connect the two.
