Blu-Ray (BD) and HD DVD are two formats are not compatible. LG makes units that play both formats. Both are HD DVD and BD high definition optical discs far superior to DVD. They are currently in competition with each other. Do not confuse with these two HDMI up-converting DVD players. Although a DVD player with HDMI outputs can improve image quality a little bit is nothing compared with that recorded in 1080p as a Blu-Ray or HD DVD. As a bonus, the BD and HD DVD can even convert a DVD-like DVD players with HDMI output (though some do better than others)
