Video Editing Software: Camtasia Studio
Camtasia Studio is one of the most popularly recommended programs video editing software. For what it is, Camtasia is a great program BUT (and this is a very big BUT) it is absolutely NOT the right software for most video editing projects.
To hear some people recommend, however, that certainly gives the impression that it is the alpha and omega for video editing.
It is not.
A question from a reader the other day that really drove this home. He is in the kitchen niche and wanted to produce a cooking show, a sort of Emeril. Bought a lot of video equipment, including Camtasia for editing. The problem is that, for him, Camtasia is essentially useless.
Why Why?
Camtasia is designed to make screen capture videos. This means that the main function of the software is the ability to record what is on the computer screen. Say you want to make a video tutorial on how to use a computer application. Camtasia allows you to record screenshots when the application is open on your computer. You can demonstrate how the software using these screen shots. You can add audio transitions and titles.
Camtasia is good for making videos of PowerPoint slides.
But my friend who wanted to change its cooking program was out of luck because Camtasia is NOT designed to edit an entire program from scratch but the video you shoot with a normal video camera.
You can add a little camera video to a Camtasia production, but it is recommended that you use the video as a small box, a picture in picture (PIP) display. In this way, the camera video is designed to be complementary to the screen capture video. The video screen capture (video or power point) is the largest part of their program.
If you want to make a video presentation to shoot with a standard video camera, then you need a video editing program standard as Windows Movie Maker, Sony Vegas, Adobe Premier or Final Cut, to name a few.
The video editing programs are for editing camera video. Unlike comtasia can not record a screen capture shot. So if you want to show your computer screen in a video being edited Windows Movie Maker, you should use a jpeg or you need a video tape your computer screen with a video camera and video capture then Movie Maker in the same way you captured the video rental. I do it all the time because they wanted to spend $ 300 for Camtasia.
If Camtasia is suitable for you depends entirely on what type of video you want to perform.
Is it the video will be full of screenshots or equipment is to be filled with video I took at the beach?
Camtasia is a good software, please do not misunderstand me. As it does, is probably the best program Camtasia there. BUT, if you want to edit videos that consist mainly of video taken with your camcorder, the video is, live action, then you need another software Camtasia.
I felt real pain for my friend the chef who completely misunderstood this distinction before buying a video editing software. $ 300 is too much to lose When Windows Movie Maker have been a better choice for him and it's free.
