Good Can high cholesterol be the sign of a problem?
The simplistic notion that LDL cholesterol is "bad" cholesterol and HDL "good" has a single purpose in public health dogma: scare people taking statin drugs to lower their toxic LDL cholesterol. A new study shows that some people with = "high" HDL cholesterol> title high HDL cholesterol have increased rates of chest pain, heart attack and death – but who?
When Pfizer tried to raise HDL cholesterol drug torcetrapib its results were disastrous and the trial had to be stopped early due to the significant cardiovascular disease mortality. The new study confirms that patients with high levels of inflammatory C-reactive protein and high HDL are at particular risk. But there a lot of people with C-reactive protein and high normal or low HDL are still at risk for heart disease. Since many of the best researchers in the world seems confused by this apparent paradox of HDL, let me help a little.
I compared the LDL cholesterol to a UPS truck, helping to ensure good important nutrition and fat-soluble antioxidants in the whole body. It becomes "bad" only when it is damaged due to interactions with toxins, germs, free radicals, or some kind of inflammatory insult. damaged LDL cholesterol, also called oxidized LDL can form plaque in your arteries. People take antioxidants soluble in fat such as tocotrienol form of vitamin E to protect LDL from harm.
HDL cholesterol is like a tow truck, trailer specifically LDL cholesterol back to your liver to be recycled, regenerated, or cleared from your body. If you do not have enough HDL cholesterol or if you have too much LDL cholesterol, then the balance between the tow truck and the UPS truck is hit and who are at risk of a problem.
You can not tell the amount of LDL cholesterol is damaged their number, though it is assumed that if higher your probably have more. Similarly, one can not know the quality of HDL cranes for a number of HDL, although one can assume that if the number of your HDL is low as there is not enough nutrition to be toxic or something / is inflammatory destruction. Either situation is very inflammatory, which correlates well with the new finding of inflammation and increased HDL as a risk factor.
The moral of the story is that the cholesterol numbers themselves only means something in the context of a person's general health. Y then you have to understand what LDL and HDL are trying to understand their own problems can be. Just thinking about "good" and "bad" can do to lose the whole boat or take a toxic drug that is far from good for you. If your HDL is high and you feel so good then you should take steps aggressive to reduce inflammation and toxicity, as the latest science is showing that you need to reduce their cardiovascular risk.
