One of the many factors for heart disease is high cholesterol. The risk of an individual to coronary artery disease is the logarithmic function of the individual risk factor 'x' which can be calculated using the relationship x = total cholesterol / HDL cholesterol (lipoprotein high density) cholesterol, the risk for men M and women 'W' can be modeled by M = 1.357 ln x – 1.1875 and 2.069 W = ln x – 2.042 The risk calculated from these formulas can be expressed as a multiple of "medium" risk. (A person with a risk equal to 0.2 means that he or she has 20% the average risk of coronary artery disease. The normal or average risk for Americans is a 75% chance of a heart attack in a lifetime.) Search for each patient at risk for coronary artery disease. Round to two decimal places. Patient A: Female w / a 180 total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol of 60 Patient B: Man w / a total Chol 184, HDL of 46 Patient C: Man w / a total chol of 210 and HDL of 38
have total cholesterol divided by HDL, ie 180/60 = 3 = 1.0986 take Ln3 multiplied by 1.357 and subtract 1.1875 for M = 0.30 for women similarly obtained 1.49 hope this helps
